Template:Q
Usage
For backward compatibility, {{q}} with no parameters will produce the icon with a question mark:
The main purpose of this template is to produce typographically correct inline quotations, providing functionality similar to the HTML <Q> tag. The template takes a single parameter and encloses the supplied text in typographical quotation marks: “a {{q|test}} string” produces
- a “test” string
Interaction with WP:EngvarB
This template may be used where there are different national varieties of English spelling within standard quotes in an article's text susceptible of being acted upon by the EngvarB script – particularly in articles already tagged with {{Use British English}}, {{Use British (Oxford) English}}, {{Use Canadian English}} templates. While the script cannot recognise standard single or double quotes, the template will protect such words from script actions. It may also be relied upon as a protection mechanism for such words within quote marks when an equivalent AWB module is developed in future.
