ChatGPT Custom Instructions Feature

A ChatGPT Custom Instructions Feature is a ChatGPT feature (in ChatGPT) that allows users to set preferences or requirements for the model's responses.

  • Context:
    • It can provide additional control over how ChatGPT responds by remembering user preferences for all future conversations.
    • It can reduce the friction of starting each ChatGPT conversation from scratch.
    • It can enable the creation of a ChatGPT-based Agent.
  • Example(s):
    • I am a 3rd grade science teacher.
    • I am a Python developer
    • I am grocery shopping for a large family.
    • Preferences:
      - answer be terse and formal.
      - wiki text responses in code boxes.
      - context statements start with "It can ..." and include a Wiki Linked Term.
      - in wikitext annotate terms and noun phrases and names as wiki links.
      - publication titles in citations should have first letter capitalized.
