A semantic annotation task is an annotation task that is a semantic analysis task to create semantic annotation item in order to make meaning machine processable.
- AKA: Semantic Tagging/Mark-up.
- Context:
- Input: a Human Processable Artifact, such as a (typically) Text Item or a Multimedia Item.
- optional: a Semantic Markup Language.
- optional: a Knowledge Base (such as Wikipedia, Semantic Wiki, or an Ontology).
- output: a machine processable Semantically Annotated Item.
- It can be solve by a Semantic Annotation System (that implements a semantic annotation algorithm).
- It can range from being a Manual Semantic Annotation Task to being an Automated Annotation Task (such as a semi-automated semantic annotation task).
- It can range from being a Data-Driven Semantic Annotation Task to being a Heuristic Semantic Annotation Task.
- It can be supported by: Concept Reference Identification, Concept Reference Recognition, and Concept Reference Resolution.
- It can be supported by a Semantic Annotation System (that implements a Semantic Annotation algorithm).
- It can be solved by a Semantic Tagging System (that implements a semantic annotation algorithm).
