A named entity is an entity that has been assigned a name.
- Context:
- It can range from being a Named Singleton to being a Named Set.
- It can be the referent to a Named Entity Referencer (such as a named entity mention or a named entity record).
- Example(s):
- the planet Venus which has names: "morning star" and "evening star".
- any Named Person, such as: Michael Jackson, which can be referenced by a Named Entity Record such as
[Type="Person", Name.First="Michael", Name.Last="Jackson", BirthDate="August 29, 1958", Birth.City="Gary", Birth.State="Indiana", Birth.Country="USA"], an Explicit Person Record) - any Named Location, such as: “Mumbai” (or temporarily as “Bombay”), which can be reference by a Toponym Record.

- a Titled Books, such as: “Advanced Calculus”, which can be referenced by a Citation Record such as

- most Organizations, such as “Microsoft Inc.”, “UNICEF”, “WHO”.
