A Knowledge Base Population Task is a database population task that populates a knowledge base.
- Context:
- It can be solved by a KBP System (that implements a KBP algorithm).
- It can range from being a Manual KB Population Task to being an Automated KB Population Task.
- It can range from being a Heuristic KBP Task to being a Data-Driven KBP Task (such as supervised KBP task).
- It can be a part of a KB Construction Task.
- Example(s):
- a TAC KBP Task, such as a TAC-2014 Entity Linking Task.

- Counter-Example(s):
- See: Knowledge Harvesting, KB Management System.

- QUOTE: This article is a retrospective on the theme of knowledge harvesting: automatically constructing large high-quality knowledge bases from Internet sources. We draw on our experience in the Yago-Naga project over the last decade, but consider other projects as well. The article discusses lessons learned on architecture of a knowledge harvesting system, and points out open challenges and research opportunities.
