- LexInfo is a metamodel for ontology lexica called LexInfo. It has been formalized using the OWL language. We have developed an API (the LexInfo API) that allows to create, manage and serialize ontology lexica according to the LexInfo model.
LexInfo is thus an attempt to capture in a declarative way (using an ontology) the relation between the way we talk about things and the way they are formalized in a given ontology. The benefit of such a representation are the following:
- Ontology lexica can be published, reused and shared across applications, thus avoiding that every application has to specify the language-ontology interface again from scratch.
- It allows to generate grammars for information extraction systems or a syntax-semantics interface from the ontology and the associated lexicon
- Overall, LexInfo can thus provide support in all those tasks where text (language) needs to be connected to an ontology, such as:
- Natural language interfaces to ontologies
- Ontology-based information extraction
- Ontology population
- Ontology-driven web/text mining
